5 ute solutions for your 4WD
There are hundreds of options for the ute owner when it comes to a solution at the back of your vehicle. Traditional canopies have been the go-to ute solution, however, as the industry and people’s needs evolve, so too does the range on offer.

1. Tub canopies
Tub canopies, now more commonly known as “tub toppers”, do what they say on the box and sit on the top of the tub to give more space, storage and security. They are a lighter option compared to a canopy. Tub toppers are often made from lightweight alloy (for strength) or fibreglass (cost effectiveness).
They are an ideal solution for maximising the back of your vehicle, and are versatile in that you can often add a roof top tent on top.
2. Tub racks
A simple solution to allow where storage and functionality meets. A tub rack is like a roofrack but is designed to fit over the tub of your ute. A tub rack offers a lightweight and strong storage upgrade for a ute so you can make the most out of your vehicle whether four wheeling or working. They are often strong enough for a rooftop tent as well.
3. Tonneau covers
A tonneau cover sits over the back of the tub and can be a great solution for adding additional protection to the tub or tray of your ute and the contents inside it.
They can keep your tools and other equipment safe and out of the elements, reduce theft and noise and also help to improve fuel efficiency. And we have a range of options to suit your particular needs at our Canning Vale location in Perth.
- HARD COVERS
Hard covers are a great ute solution to add additional security to the back of your vehicle without changing the lines and look too much. Hard lids have the benefits of exceptional strength and security, and are a great choice for a solid but light weight cover. There are generally two options: A rigid cover or a roller cover.
A rigid cover is for someone who is in and out of the back of their ute a lot because they are easy to open and close with gas struts. While a roller cover can increase security on the vehicle, it is also ideal for someone who needs to fit oversized objects into their vehicle (because they simply roll back out of the way).
- SOFT COVERS
A traditional soft tonneau cover option is a top choice because it’s lightweight and will generally cost less than its hard cover counterpart. It is still a smooth and tight finish. Another major benefit is that they still allow for full use of the tub when needed because you can take them off easily.
4. Ute trays
Ute trays offer you the maximum use of your vehicle and the opportunity to add canopies. Quality trays can be made to suit your ute and can be an effective storage solution with lockable drawers and other compartments. They are usually made with steel or alloy.
5. Ute tray and canopy
A heavy-duty solution is a canopy. There are so many options for canopies and the inside configurations depending on how you intend to use it, for example for work or touring – or both! Many popular options are made with alloy because of how lightweight and strong they are, however they can still be made with steel.
